about AMP Academy (Atlas Maximum Performance Academy)
Atlas Learning Academy has teamed up with a local sports performance training school, to offer our students an opportunity to train in hockey during the school day, while receiving an excellent academic education. Students are provided with an opportunity to learn new sports in their daily Phys. Ed class, instructed by a sports specialist/coach.
Hockey Performance Training (currently not running)
We are proud to offer a unique training opportunity for students who want to take their hockey skills to the next level. Students in grades 5-8, who are interested in the hockey program, will have access to professional training and ice time during the school day. Each school week will consist of 3 ice sessions and 4 physical education classes.
The program will include skill enhancement in the following areas:
Skating Forward and backward stride mechanics Edge work Turns Cross overs Transition Stops and explosive starts
Puck skills Puck control Passing and receiving Shooting
Game tactics 1 on 1 play 2 on 1 play 3 on 1 play Scoring areas Zone entry options Breakouts Regroups Defensive tactics
We will be substituting some of the on ice training facility training. We will have an opportunity to work on detailed shooting and puck control mechanics as well as introduce hockey specific dryland training drills and exercises to enhance strength
The IQ component of the program will consist of on ice game like drill scenarios as well as video review. We will dissect the game into its 3 zones and cover positioning and options in each.
In addition to our season practice itinerary we will be using the last Friday of each month for game play.
A deposit of $350.00 will confirm enrolment and payments of $350.00 will be collected on the first of each month starting in September.
Students in grades 3 -8 with skating experience, will have access to a power skating program on Fridays. (A learn to skate program for ages 3 and up may be offered depending on interest)
Friday Power Skating Program
Next Level Hockey is proud to offer Atlas students grades 3-8 with a skating background the opportunity to attend our Friday afternoon power skating program. This program will focus on advancing the following skating skills:
Skaters will be separated into groups based on skill level. Practices will consist of multiple stations focusing on proper repetition of each skating skill.
The full program will consist of 14 one hour ice times between the months of September and May. The cost of the full program will be $490.00
The second option will consist of 7 one hour ice times between the months of September and May. The cost of this option is $275.00
All ice times will take placeat the Genesis Arena in Airdrie. Full hockey equipment will be required.
Additional Sports
Depending on interest, we hope to add school basketball, volleyball and badminton teams. Additional sports will be added for performance training along the way. We will try to accommodate all athletes that need to train during the school day, while still covering all their educational requirements/needs.
