Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870.
Dr. Montessori was the first woman to receive a medical degree in Italy, and following graduation she became director of a school for the mentally disabled in Rome.

While at this school she formulated her philosophies, principles, and methods for the education of very young children. She achieved startling results and the children under her tutelage passed many exams given to normal children.

Her system of education, which proudly bears her name today, is widely acclaimed by educators and psychologists. Dr. Montessori lectured and wrote numerous books on learning and the child until her death in 1952.

Today, in Montessori schools all over the world, her teachings are an inspiration to educators and parents who believe in the overwhelming educational influence of the first six years of a child's life.

The Montessori Method is a hands-on approach to learning that is also incorporated in our program. The Montessori allows children to work at their own pace without restrictions or criticism. This method creates a positive and joyful experience which in turn makes the children more confident and independent learners. The variety of activities offered encourages children to develop their observations skills, five senses,  motor skills, kinetic movement, and spacial awareness.

The Montessori method is an orderly way of learning which emphasizes the repetition of activities through the use of  particular Montessori apparatus. The method follows a sequential format which begins with basic life skills and evolves to specified areas such as mathematics, science, geography, literacy, etc.
